With the warmest of regards,

The CheckSix Team

Introduction: Roleplaying is essentially akin to cooperative storytelling where players take on the personas of unique characters and interact with each other within a shared, make-believe world. This involves living out the characters' lives, making choices, and responding to situations as though they were the characters themselves. However, in order for a roleplaying experience to be enjoyable and immersive, certain guidelines and rules must be observed. This guide is composed of Section 1 (Guidelines) and Section 2 (Rules). Thank you for taking the time to read through.

Section 1:

Respect

A robust and enjoyable roleplaying community rests on the foundation of respect. Players must approach each other with kindness, understanding, and a shared enthusiasm to construct an entertaining, immersive experience. This translates to a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination, hate speech, or harassment. Players should extend a warm welcome to newcomers, be patient with learners, and always aim to address disagreements in a mature, respectful manner. It's crucial to bear in mind that behind every character is a real person who deserves decency and respect.

Cheating and Exploits

Preserving a fair and balanced gameplay experience is paramount in a roleplay server. Cheating, utilising exploits, or manipulating game mechanics to gain an unfair advantage not only shatters the immersive experience but also diminishes the integrity of the roleplay. This encompasses the use of third-party software, exploiting glitches, or capitalising on game bugs. Remember, the goal of roleplay isn't to "triumph," but to weave engaging stories and relish the experience.

Age Requirement

Given the mature nature of GTA V and the intricacies of roleplay, all players must be at least 16 years of age. This guideline ensures that players are capable of handling mature themes responsibly and contributing positively to the overall quality of the server.

Realistic Character Creation

Characters constitute the crux of any roleplay. Thus, it's crucial that they're crafted with realistic names, appearances, and backstories. Characters should be original creations and not modelled on public figures, celebrities, or copyrighted characters. This aids in maintaining immersion and promotes creativity and originality among players.

Roleplay Guidelines

Value of Life

In roleplay, a character's life should possess the same value as it does in the real world. All players must respond realistically to dangerous situations and strive to safeguard their own life and the lives of others. Reckless or suicidal behavior disrupts immersion and is not permissible. This includes indulging in violent behaviour without a justified cause, not responding realistically to injuries, or needlessly putting one's character in perilous situations.

In-Character/Out-of-Character Separation

Keeping in-character (IC) and out-of-character (OOC) interactions separate is vital for preserving immersion. What transpires IC should remain IC, meaning personal issues or disputes must not influence in-game actions or interactions. Similarly, information gleaned OOC must not be utilised to benefit a player's character IC.

New Life Rule

The New Life Rule is an important guideline that cultivates continuity and realism in roleplay. When a character perishes, they lose the memory of the events leading up to their death. Players are prohibited from returning to the scene of their death or interacting with the players implicated in their death for a set duration.

Criminal Activity and Police Interaction

Criminal activity and police interactions are commonplace in GTA V roleplay, but they must be enacted realistically. This means that large-scale crimes or violent actions should not be executed without significant preparation, reasoning, and potential repercussions. The police, meanwhile, are permitted to use force if necessary but should also roleplay realistically and proportionally.

Economy

The in-game economy should mirror real-world economic principles. This includes earning money through lawful means like jobs or businesses and spending money in a realistic manner. Unrealistic expenditure or money-making activities are questionable; it is recommended that wealth should be amassed over a reasonable time period.

Weapons and Items

Roleplay involving illegal items or weapons should be enacted with appropriate gravity and realism. This includes realistically roleplaying the acquisition, usage, and potential consequences of being apprehended with such items.

Vehicles

Vehicles play a major role in GTA V and should be utilised realistically in roleplay. This includes obeying traffic laws (unless in a scenario that justifies otherwise), not using certain types of vehicles without a valid reason, and preserving the value of vehicles.

An In-Depth Examination of Metagaming and Powergaming

Metagaming

Metagaming is one of the most disruptive behaviours in roleplay. It involves a player leveraging OOC knowledge to benefit their character IC. This could mean a player using information obtained from a Twitch stream to locate a concealed location, reacting to information their character couldn't possibly be privy to, or using OOC communication to plan IC actions. Metagaming fractures immersion and grants players an unfair advantage. It undermines the spontaneity and unpredictability of roleplay, which are essential for crafting a compelling, shared narrative. Therefore, it's paramount that players steer clear of meta-gaming and report it if noticed.

Example 1: A player watches another player's livestream or hears from a friend about a clandestine in-game location where a unique item is concealed, or perhaps an event is unfolding. They then log into the server and head straight to this location to acquire the item or become involved in the event - even though their character would have had no way of knowing this information in-game. This is a classic instance of meta-gaming.

Example 2: While in the server, the use of Discord for communication is prohibited (or any other external communication platform) to further prevent meta-gaming. Picture a scenario where two players are part of an in-game gang, and they're planning a robbery. They discuss their plan on Discord and then execute it in-game. The use of Discord provides them with an unfair advantage, as they can communicate instantly without any in-game indications of planning. This is meta-gaming as they're using OOC resources to influence IC actions.

Further examples:

Stream sniping is strictly forbidden. Participating in a game session while simultaneously being present in a game stream, regardless of active viewing, is deemed Metagaming and will result in penalties.

Utilising
the /me command to disseminate information that is not part of the character's in-game knowledge is classified as Metagaming.

Communicating in-character details through external communication platforms (such as Discord, Teamspeak, Skype, Steam, etc.) when in-game communication is not possible is prohibited and considered Metagaming.

Powergaming

Powergaming is when you put someone in a no-win situation. Powergaming is another behaviour that negatively impacts the roleplay experience. It refers to forcing actions on other players without affording them an opportunity to respond or roleplaying in a manner that's unrealistic or ignores the rules of the game world. An example could be a player declaring that they've landed a punch on another player without allowing the other player a chance to react or rendering their character impossibly skilled or devoid of weaknesses. Like meta-gaming, power-gaming ruins the immersion and fairness of roleplay and should be strictly avoided.

Example 1: In a scenario where a player partakes in a shootout and sustains multiple gunshot wounds, rather than roleplaying the resulting injuries and incapacitation that would realistically ensue, they continue fighting, running, and jumping as if they were completely unscathed. By disregarding the game's mechanics and realism to preserve their character's advantage, this player exhibits power-gaming behaviour.

Example 2: Another manifestation of power-gaming involves imposing predetermined outcomes upon other players. For instance, a player might assert, "/me punches you and knocks you out," without affording the other player an opportunity to respond or resist. This strips away the other player's autonomy within the roleplay scenario and exemplifies another instance of power-gaming.

Further examples:

Dictating the roleplay direction for others is identified as Powergaming.

Roleplaying abilities or strengths for your character that exceed those of a typical individual is a form of Powergaming.

Manipulating law enforcement databases to erase video evidence" falls under the category of Powergaming.

Engaging in actions that aim to avoid roleplay scenarios by orchestrating a non-permanent death for your character is prohibited.

Trying to extricate an individual from police custody in a secured vehicle via the escort menu is not allowed.

Both metagaming and powergaming shatter immersion, disrupt the balance of the game, and are generally viewed as disrespectful to other players. They are both gravely serious infractions.

In conclusion, the prosperity of our community is determined by the dedication of its players to abide by the established rules and guidelines. Thank you for choosing to be part of our community, and we look forward to seeing the stories you create.

Section 2:

Rules

1.0 Age Advisory: Whilst there isn't a fixed age requirement, we strongly suggest players to be 16 years or older for a harmonious gaming experience on CheckSix.

1.1 Appropriate Character Names: Choose realistic names for your character – both a first and a surname are mandatory. Avoid using slurs, celebrity impersonations, or names that lean towards jest. E.g. Avoid names like Ben Dover, Meek Mill, I AM LEGEND, etc.

1.2 No Character Farming: Engaging in Character Farming guarantees an exit from CheckSix. This practice involves transferring assets - be it items, money, cars, property - between your characters. Remember, our multi-character system is a privilege, not a right.

Transferring assets, directly or indirectly, between your characters is deemed as Character Farming, a breach of our terms. Such violations might result in a permanent ban. We have monitoring systems to detect such activities. We cherish your presence here, but fairness is paramount.

1.3 Steam Names: We promote respect. Names that are racist, homophobic, or overly graphic will not be tolerated and will lead to a ban.

1.4 Account Accountability: Your account, your responsibility. If someone else accesses and violates any rules through your account, it is as if you've committed the infringement.

1.5 Audio Quality: All members must have a functional microphone devoid of distracting background noises. Always ensure the 'Push To Talk' setting is activated in-game, to prevent any 'Hot Mics' or unintentional audio broadcasts.

For those with verbal, mental, or physical disabilities, we offer text-based communication as an alternative. Should you require this, liaise directly with a Community Management member. All text-based roleplay needs prior approval from the community management. At CheckSix, inclusivity isn't just a word – it's a commitment.

1.6 Sensitive Roleplay Subjects:

1.7 ERP (Erotic Roleplay):

Consent is paramount. All involved parties must agree to participate and must be at least 18 years of age.

1.8 External Crosshairs:

Third-party software to project a crosshair on your screen is forbidden. This isn't merely a video game – it's an immersive roleplay experience. Offenders will face a temporary ban while we determine further action.

1.9 Terrorism/Suicide Roleplay:

Given the sensitivity of such topics, terrorism and suicide-themed roleplays are prohibited. However, roleplaying a 'Character Kill' suicide is permissible if, and only if, all participants in the roleplay unanimously agree.

2.0 OOC (Out-of-Character) Threats:

Engaging in any form of out-of-character threats is strictly forbidden in our community. This includes, but is not limited to:

Remember, all interactions should remain respectful and within the boundaries of the game's roleplay. Actions that cross over into real-life threats or harassment are not only against the rules of our server but can also have legal implications. We aim to create a safe and enjoyable environment for all players, and breaching this rule will lead to severe consequences.

2.1 Exploitation:

Abusing Bugs and Glitches: Using known or discovered bugs and glitches in the game to gain an unfair advantage. This could be anything from manipulating character movements to exploiting environmental glitches.

Players found exploiting will face serious consequences, including potential bans. Our goal is to ensure a fair and enjoyable experience for all players, and we rely on the community to help uphold these standards. Remember, exploiting not only affects other players but can diminish the overall quality and enjoyment of the game.

2.2 Third-Party Software Restrictions:

Utilising third-party software such as Crosshairs, auto-miners, and Discord whilst in the city is strictly forbidden. In-city communications must rely on in-game methods like radios. Breaching this rule will result in a ban. Whilst out of the city, Discord for Check6-related discussions is acceptable.

Any third-party software, including, but not limited to, tracers, props, Crosshairs, and Aimbots is strictly prohibited. Failing to report another player's use of such software, if known, will also result in penalties.

Tampering with or adding game files to gain an unfair advantage will lead to an unappealable ban.

2.3 Safe Zones:

Violent behaviours are strictly off-limits in green zones. No acts of aggression, theft, or kidnapping are permitted in these areas. Green Zones are currently limited to hospitals and public events such as Races and Community Gatherings.

2.4 Prohibition of Scams and Real Money Trading:

Scamming, by attempting to sell vehicles or properties you don’t legitimately own, is prohibited. Moreover, trading in-game assets for real-life money is strictly forbidden and will result in a permanent ban.

2.5 Default Joining Restrictions:

When joining our server, we highly encourage you to immerse yourself in the roleplaying experience by creating a unique and distinct character. A customised character (both clothing/face from default) that looks realistic enough to engage with others is expected.  A working microphone.

2.6 RDM & Interaction Prerequisites:

Random Death Match (RDM), or attacking someone without valid roleplay justification, is not tolerated. All interactions that may lead to violence must be initiated and validated with prior interaction.

2.7 VDM Guidelines:

Vehicular Death Match (VDM), or intentionally using a vehicle to harm others without substantial roleplay justification, is not acceptable. Vehicles shouldn't be employed as weapons recklessly or without deep roleplay context.

2.8 Maintaining Quality of Roleplay:

Maintain high-quality roleplay at all times. Engaging in rash acts, like shooting due to minor disagreements, diminishes the roleplay quality. If fatigue sets in, it's recommended to pause and rest, preventing lapses in judgement that might lead to penalties.

2.9 Roleplay Authenticity & NVL (Value of Life):

Engaging in unrealistic actions like surviving a high fall, disregarding repeated injuries, or using OOC talk constitutes 'Fail RP'. Endeavour to maintain realism by responding authentically to injuries and situations as they would naturally unfold.

Wearing police attire from standard shops is prohibited. Such garments can only be donned if given whitelist permission.

NVL dictates the principle of valuing your in-game life. For instance, if confronted by a group, one wouldn't simply defy them without just cause. Notable exceptions include evading a robbery whilst in a vehicle.

3.0 Fear RP:

Always show realistic fear in dire situations, especially when outnumbered or under threat. Value your character's life, and respond appropriately to life-threatening situations.

3.1 Maintaining Character:

Never break character, irrespective of circumstances. Refrain from using OOC terms or making non-characterised remarks.

3.2 Metagaming:

Utilising external knowledge that your character wouldn't know, like information from streams or Discord chats, is forbidden. As highlighted earlier in 2.2, using Discord for in-game communication is strictly prohibited.

3.3 Power Gaming:

Misusing game mechanics to gain an advantage in roleplay scenarios is not permitted. Signs of Power Gaming include enduring repeated tackles without submission, frequent tasering without adequate response, or communicating on radio while restrained. Ensure authenticity in all interactions.

3.4 Intentional Ramming:

Ramming vehicles without a valid RP reason is discouraged. Such behaviour is not only disruptive but can be equated to RDM due to its unprovoked nature.

3.5 New Life Rule:

Experiencing a 'death' in the game presents a unique opportunity for character development and narrative progression. As a general rule of thumb, when a player's character 'dies', the character should not retain specific memories leading up to that death. This simulates the trauma and disorientation of such a significant event and provides an avenue for fresh roleplaying experiences.

However, there are exceptions:

Remember, the New Life Rule isn't just about forgetting; it's an invitation for richer storytelling, allowing players to delve deeper into their character's psyche and emotions.

3.6 Griefing:

Griefing is the act of intentionally causing distress or harm to other players, disrupting the overall game experience and diminishing the enjoyment of the game for others. It manifests in various ways and goes beyond mere competitive play or standard in-game conflict.

Key Points to Understand About Griefing:

Consequences and Reporting:

Players found to be griefing can face penalties ranging from warnings to temporary or permanent bans, depending on the severity and frequency of the offences. It's crucial for players to report griefing incidents with evidence to ensure the server remains a conducive environment for genuine roleplay.

Remember, roleplaying servers aim to create a rich, immersive environment for storytelling. While conflicts, disputes, and rivalries are all part of that narrative, it's essential to differentiate between genuine roleplay and actions meant to purely harm or disrupt another player's experience.

3.7 Combat Logging:

Deliberately logging out to evade an event, such as a shootout, arrest, or robbery, is termed as 'combat logging'. Whilst we recognise the possibility of crashes, any proven act of combat logging will face consequences. Crash records are automatically stored in your files.

3.8 Indiscreet Boasting:

Avoid publicly flaunting illegal deeds or possessions to portray a dominant image. Such actions are not only unrealistic but also detrimental to the in-game environment.

3.9 OOC Protocols:

Direct messaging or any unsolicited out-of-character (OOC) communication with players is impermissible and could result in a ban. It's crucial to differentiate between in-game events and personal emotions; no player should feel persecuted or troubled concerning in-game scenarios. Refer to 2.0 OOC (Out-of-Character) Threats

To address concerns, utilise the /report feature, access support via Discord, or submit a ticket. Refrain from using OOC terminology while in the game. Inappropriate OOC discussions are not allowed and could lead to penalties.

4.0 Spamming:

Sending repeated messages in channels such as OOC, 911, or /report is strictly prohibited. If assistance is not forthcoming in the game, players should seek help through opening a ticket in our discord server. Additionally, incessantly messaging staff members directly—whether it's regarding bans or seeking support—is not permissible and will be dealt with accordingly.

4.1 Terrorist RP:

Terrorist RP refers to any roleplaying activity that mimics, represents, or simulates the actions, ideologies, or behaviours associated with terrorism. This includes but is not limited to:

Promoting Terrorist Ideologies: Spreading, supporting, or roleplaying ideologies that endorse or encourage terrorism, violence against civilians, or the disruption of public order and safety.

Examples:

The prohibition of terrorist RP is in place to ensure a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all players. Such content can be distressing and offensive to many players and goes against the spirit of our gaming community.  Any form of terrorist RP is unacceptable. This includes any actions, dialogues, or scenarios that involve terrorism or terrorist-like activities. There is a zero-tolerance policy for any players found engaging in terrorist RP. This includes both direct participation and support or encouragement of such activities. Players are encouraged to report any instances of terrorist RP. Those found engaging in such behaviour will face immediate and serious consequences, including permanent bans.

4.2 Whitelisted Jobs & Limitations:

To maintain balance and provide opportunities for all players, the community has set a cap on the number of whitelisted jobs a player can undertake. This limit stands at TWO WHITELISTED JOBS. For instance, a player could be employed at both a mechanic shop and Burger Shot simultaneously.

However, it's not just about quantity but quality:

4.3 Job Integrity & Misuse:

 4.4 Communication When Injured:

While communication is permitted when a player is downed, it's crucial to convey a genuine sense of injury. This can be portrayed through pain-induced expressions or groans. Regular conversations or using radios/phones in this state are strictly prohibited. If friends unexpectedly locate a downed player, it may be assumed the player communicated their location illicitly, leading to potential penalties.

 4.5 Player Identification Protocols:

Players can be identified through visible attributes such as attire, facial features, tattoos, or specific habits. However, voice recognition as a sole means of identification is disallowed. Regular offenders who do not change their modus operandi, clothing, or vehicles may be discernible and treated accordingly.

 4.6 Crime Scene Protocols:

4.7 The Six-Person Limit:

4.8 Player Robbery Protocols:

4.9 Taking Hostages:

NEEDS COMPLETE REVISION

5.0 Robbery Cooldowns with Hostages:

You are not permitted to sit and wait for the cooldown of any robbery with the hostage inside. Hostages should not be kept for extended durations simply to wait for a robbery cooldown. If you've brought a hostage and find there's a cooldown of 5 minutes or more for the robbery, please release the hostage and leave the scene. Prolonged detainment of hostages for mere cooldown waits will be deemed as limiting another player's RP potential. Persistently doing so may result in deportation from the server.

5.1 When Criminal Activity can occur:

A 'storm' refers to the server restarting process. Criminal activities (excluding gang wars) can only commence 20 minutes after the city restarts following such a storm and should cease 30 minutes before the city shuts down for an upcoming storm. This includes activities like drug sales/runs, gun sales/runs, and robberies. Players must not exploit the impending storm to elude law enforcement or engage in illicit actions. This rule ensures uninterrupted roleplay scenes due to a server restart.

5.2 Emergency Vehicles (Police & NHS)

Emergency vehicles are STRICTLY OFF LIMITS for unauthorised use. If you aren't clocked on as NHS, the MET, or other Emergency Personnel, you are FORBIDDEN to drive or steal these vehicles. The singular exception arises during a roleplay situation, for instance, if you are evading capture, your vehicle is incapacitated, and stealing an emergency vehicle is your sole escape route.

While looting of Emergency Vehicles is permissible, it's expressly PROHIBITED to take medical supplies or any other resources aside from weapons, illicit items, and Kevlar Vests. Any contraband removed in violation of these terms will be promptly confiscated from your inventory.

5.8 Graffiti and Tagging

Defacing any Government Entity with graffiti or tags must be done in a realistic, tasteful manner, and the ability to do so does not mean you should do it. One’s own initiative is integral in regards to this. Ergo, buildings that should be approached with great caution when performing these actions are as follows: Police Stations, Fire Houses, Pillbox, and similar establishments.

Equally important, graffiti or tagging that involves racial slurs, OOC based personal attacks, or any other offensive content is expressly PROHIBITED.

Exercise discretion with the graffiti tool. Abuse can lead to its removal. Endeavour to make your tags distinctive and meaningful.

5.3 Gang Wars:

Gang Wars: Ensuring Fair Play and Maintaining Quality RP

The very essence of our server is to provide an immersive and realistic roleplaying environment. In the throes of heightened conflict such as gang wars, it becomes even more essential to adhere to a code of conduct that ensures fairness and retains the spirit of quality RP.

Initiating a Gang War:

Guidelines for Engagements:

Maintaining Quality Roleplay:

A surge in complaints or tickets concerning the conduct during a war will lead the server staff to intervene. The primary objective is to ensure quality roleplay; hence any deviation from this gold standard may result in the conflict being suspended or terminated.

In all things, remember the essence of our server: a commitment to realistic, engaging, and respectful interactions. Let the tales of your conflicts be legends within the city and community, not blemishes on its integrity. Remember; do not play to win, but to create great stories.

5.4 Gang Size Limitations:

To maintain a balanced and fair environment, gangs are currently capped at a maximum of 15 members. As the server population evolves, we may revisit and adjust this limitation. Any changes will be duly updated in this section, but always adhere to the current stated capacity.

5.5 Commitment to Gang Affiliation:

Joining a gang is a significant roleplay decision, reflecting a profound character development. Players are expected to show consistency in their affiliation choices. Here's what to bear in mind:

5.6 Guidelines on Retaliation and Territorial Disputes:

Understanding gang dynamics is crucial. Here's a breakdown:

Remember, each action has consequences. Engage with rival gangs maturely, understanding the broader implications of every decision.
